UNDERSTANDING AUTISM WORKSHOP

UNDERSTANDING AUTISM: A THERAPIST'S GUIDE

A workshop provided via video recording with twice monthly live consultations, this workshop will help clinicians understand what Autism, and neurodivergence generally, actually is. Jennifer walks participants through an understanding of the neurodiversity paradigm and the autistic nervous system. The impact of the intersection of having an autistic nervous system is explored in order to help clinicians understand what they are seeing in their practice and have concrete resource and tools to work with autistic folks. With sections on working with autistic young people (including how to work with parents and others in the young person's life) and on working with adults, this workshop gives a information and resources to help clinicians work from an affirming and anti-ableist framework.

Consultations designed to provide a space for questions and help clinicians deepen their learning take place on most 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month.

Feedback from previous participants:

"This was a lovely training that supported the destigmatization of autism."

"I absolutely loved this workshop! As a late-diagnosed Autistic adult, I found that the information presented (and the format in which it was presented) not only fit my needs as a learner but also helped me to better connect with my clients and their families. The information was relevant and up-to-date, and provided a deeper understanding of this topic. Thank you for sharing all this information!"

"Thank you so much! It was seriously life changing.  I've never been to such an empowering training.  It really helped me with my clients and myself as a fellow neurodivergent therapist. Thank you!"

"This training was EXCELLENT! I learned so much while feeling so seen and validated about how important it is to practice and live from a neuro-affirming framework. "

"I absolutely loved the metaphors and real world examples used to really be able to share and relate to my clients. "

"After taking this training with Jennifer, I was able to give myself permission to support my clients *the way they needed*. I learned how to better navigate competing needs and prioritize challenging ableist mechanisms in my own work. I highly recommend this training to all mental health professionals!"

"This workshop was FANTASTIC.  Jennifer is not only a presenter who can share valuable insights from lived experience, she is also really well educated in the field and a very engaging presenter. She makes her materials readily available and is well-organized about making sure additional resources mentioned in sessions do get sent in the follow-ups. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone who is, know, loves, works with, teaches, bumps into in the community,... an autistic person. The more we all know, the better we can make things for all of us. Thank you!"

"The workshop, consultation, and resources have been very helpful for myself and my clients. "

"This was a wonderful training, I highly recommend to anyone who wants to learn more about working with autistic clients and their families!"

"Jennifer's love of teaching therapists how to work with people through a neuro-affirming lens and from a non-ableist perspective comes through so beautifully in this workshop!  I'm grateful that my team and I had the opportunity to attend this workshop together and be in dialogue with one another AND have the support of Jennifer to help us sort through our questions and offer clarity. I highly recommend Jennifer's WWAYP workshop for anyone who wants to learn about working with autistic people."
